Thailand 90-Day Report: How to File It (Step-by-Step Guide for Expats)

Thailand 90-Day Report: How to File It (Step-by-Step Guide for Expats)

What Is the 90-Day Report?

If you are a foreign national living in Thailand on a long-stay visa (such as a Non-Immigrant visa, retirement visa, or work permit), you are legally required to notify Thai Immigration of your current address every 90 days. This is known as the 90-day report or TM.47.

It is not a visa renewal - it is simply a notification to confirm where you are living. Failing to file on time can result in a fine.

Who Must File a 90-Day Report?

You must file a 90-day report if you:

  • Hold a Non-Immigrant visa (type B, O, O-A, ED, etc.)
  • Are living in Thailand on a long-stay or retirement extension
  • Are on a work permit extension
  • Have been staying continuously in Thailand for 90 days without leaving the country

You do NOT need to file if you have left Thailand and re-entered within the 90-day window - your 90-day counter resets each time you re-enter the country.

When Is the 90-Day Report Due?

Your report is due within 7 days before or after the 90th day of your continuous stay. This gives you a 15-day window in total. The due date is printed on the receipt (acknowledgement slip) from your last report.

Tip: Keep your TM.47 receipt after every submission - it tells you exactly when your next report is due.

How to File Your 90-Day Report

There are three ways to file: online, by mail, or in person at your local Immigration office.

Option 1: File Online (Recommended)

The Immigration Bureau's online system is the most convenient option for most expats.

  1. Go to the official Thai Immigration online reporting system at https://tm47.immigration.go.th
  2. Log in or create an account using your passport number
  3. Fill in your current address details
  4. Upload a copy of your passport (photo page, visa page, and latest entry stamp)
  5. Submit and download your acknowledgement receipt

Note: The online system can be slow or experience downtime. If you cannot access it close to your deadline, file in person to avoid a late fine.

Option 2: File by Mail

  1. Complete the TM.47 form (available at Immigration offices or downloadable from the Immigration Bureau website)
  2. Attach a copy of your passport (photo page, visa page, and latest entry stamp)
  3. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for your receipt to be returned to you
  4. Mail to your local Immigration office at least 7 days before the deadline to allow for postal delivery time

Option 3: File In Person

  1. Visit your local Immigration office (e.g., Chaeng Watthana in Bangkok, Jomtien in Pattaya, Chiang Mai Immigration, etc.)
  2. Bring the completed TM.47 form, your passport (original), and a copy of your passport (photo page, visa page, and latest entry stamp)
  3. Take a queue number and wait to be called
  4. Submit your documents at the counter and receive your acknowledgement receipt

Tip: Arrive early - Immigration offices can be busy, especially at the start of the week or month.

Documents Required

  • Completed TM.47 form
  • Original passport
  • Copy of passport photo page
  • Copy of current visa page
  • Copy of latest entry stamp
  • Copy of your previous TM.47 receipt (acknowledgement slip)
  • Some offices also request a copy of your TM.30 (house registration notification by your landlord)

Fees

Filing a 90-day report on time is free of charge - there is no fee for the TM.47 notification itself, whether you file online, by mail, or in person.

Fines for Late Filing

If you miss the deadline, you can still file, but you will be subject to a fine:

  • Late filing fine: ฿2,000 THB (paid at the Immigration office)
  • You must appear in person to pay the fine and submit your late report
  • Repeated or extended failures to report can lead to more serious immigration consequences

If you are outside Thailand when your 90-day report is due and then re-enter the country, your counter resets and no fine applies. The 90-day period starts fresh from your new entry date.

Processing Time

  • Online: Instant - you receive your acknowledgement receipt immediately after submission
  • By mail: Allow 1–2 weeks for the office to process and return your receipt
  • In person: Usually completed on the same day within a few hours

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to report every 90 days even if I travel?

No. Every time you leave and re-enter Thailand, your 90-day counter resets based on your new entry date. You only need to file the TM.47 if you have stayed continuously in Thailand for 90 days.

What if I forget to file?

File as soon as you remember. The fine for late filing is ฿2,000 THB, paid in person at the Immigration office. It is better to file late than not at all.

Can someone else file on my behalf?

Yes. A representative can file in person on your behalf with a signed authorization letter and copies of your documents. Many expats use an agent or service provider for this reason.

Is the 90-day report the same as extending my visa?

No. The 90-day report (TM.47) is a separate obligation from your visa extension. You must do both - renew your visa/extension before it expires AND file the 90-day report every 90 days of continuous stay.
